10+ Sausage Recipes for Dinner

Apr 4, 2020 2 Comments

I know I’m getting ahead of myself here, but when I think about content for this blog, I always think, “a year from now will this still hold true?” And while I pray daily that we fight the COVID-19 pandemic as quickly as possible, and that a year from now we are back to our old reality, I have a feeling I’ll be creating another post with 10+ Sausage Recipes for Dinner. There’s a reason Anthony has been nicknamed, “the sausage king.” My family loves sausage for dinner!

An oldie but goodie from our old house. Spaghetti with chicken sausage! I could eat this dinner every night of the week. No recipe to follow for this one: Al Fresco Chicken Sausage Italian-Style, whole wheat spaghetti noodles, Rao’s Marinara, some fresh basil in Mom’s, and frozen garlic bread. MANJA!

From pasta to potatoes to rice or beans, sausage just seems to go with almost anything to make a complete main meal. And now that I’m keeping my fridge, freezer, and pantry stocked TO THE MAX because of social distancing, chicken sausage and hot dogs are always there when I think, “what should I make for dinner.” Why? I’m personally a fan of chicken sausage and all-beef hot dogs, and so are the kiddos. I like to “dress” mine up, with fun toppings, while the kids you’re your standard ketchup and mustard. Plus, sausages have a long shelf-life [i.e. they don’t spoil quickly], so that helps to eliminate frequent trips to the grocery store.

So, here you have it: 10+ Sausage Recipes for Dinner that will either make your family ask for seconds or inspire you to try a new recipe this week.

Chicken Sausage + Tri-Colored Pepper Skillet: No recipe here guys. You can kinda guess the theme of my sausage, veggies, and skillet recipes.

Can you tell my family loves sausage?! As far as brands go, I tend to shop based on price and what’s currently available in the store. I typically buy Al Fresco, Dearborn Brand, Applegate, Kroger’s Simple Truth, or Gilbert’s Craft Sausages.

And if you’re concerned about ingredients or sodium content when it comes to eating sausage, know this: a little goes a long way. And as shown above, not only can you buy a variety of sausages based on purchasing preferences like organic, natural, homemade, etc., sausage goes great with a variety of vegetables and whole grains. I’m not an all or nothing type of registered dietitian nutritionist, and the same goes for my own eating habits and behaviors.  I want you to make an informed decision for yourself, and hope you’ll continue to make my healthy recipes and read my family-feeding tips even if we agree to disagree.

Healthy to me encompasses so much more than just food. It’s relationships with my family and friends. It’s getting enough sleep at night and exercising every day. It’s surrounding myself with positivity and things I enjoy- and today that so happens to be 10+ sausage recipes for dinner!
