While I usually write recipes or how-to’s for toddlers, today I’m giving myself and other moms a little self-care. And since my kids are always snacking, I’ve found myself snacking more often than not… which can be a good or bad thing when it comes to Momma’s waistline. Here’s the deal with snacks: some are healthier and more satisfying than others. And as most busy parents know, we need our fuel to power through from morning to night. So I’ve rounded-up a few of my favorite energy-boosting snacks for busy moms that are not only good for Mom [and Dad], but the whole family too. Because chances are if you’re snacking on it, your kids will be as well—- even though they don’t need the extra energy!
Greek Yogurt: Specifically, Chobani Flip products. Greek yogurt is undoubtedly a powerhouse snack. It’s lower in sugar, and full of calcium and protein and other essential nutrients. Chobani has taken this wonderful treat and elevated it to another level of snacking with their Flip line.
Each Chobani Flip has a unique combination of creamy Chobani Greek Yogurt and a side car of highly curated, thoughtful mix-ins. Many Flip flavors are an excellent source of protein, with most providing 12 or more grams! (This is one nutrient that can help any toddler-mom power through their day!) So whether you fancy the flavors of key lime pie or salted caramel, Chobani Flip is one delicious snack that’s good for you, with a wide variety of unique, cravable flavors.
Trail mix: Sometimes you just need a little chocolate to help get you through the day. Luckily, dark chocolate contains free radical crushing antioxidants and when paired with protein and fiber you have a sustaining combination to get you through your busy day. Incorporate dark chocolate chips along with nuts, seeds, whole grain cereal and dried fruit for an easy trail mix to bring with you on the go.
On the go “cheese platter”: Mixed nuts, cheese and dried fruit- Who says cheese platters are just for happy hour?! The dried fruit can just as easily be swapped out for fresh fruit to get the same great flavor combinations and health benefits!
- Try these combinations:
- Cashews, dried cherries and cheddar cheese cubes
- Dried blueberries, almonds, Colby jack cheese cubes
- Dried mango, peanuts, and pepper jack cheese cubes
- Banana chips, walnuts/pecans and gruyere cheese cubes
Rice Cakes: On their own, rice cakes are not the most filling of snacks but they offer just about as much versatility as bread with a fraction of the calories and carbohydrates. They are a crispy canvas that’s perfect to pair with multitude of toppings for a satisfying and nutritious snack at any time of day:
- Top them savory with avocado and nuts.
- Make an open faced PB&J with fresh cut strawberries instead of jam.
- Spread on hummus and top with roasted veggies.
- Spread on peanut butter, banana, slivered almonds with a sprinkle of cinnamon.
Popcorn: Hungry for something crunchy, sweet, salty or even spicy? Air popped popcorn is the perfect vessel for any craving. The versatile nature of this little grain makes it a go to snack option. Compared to pretzels and potato chips, popcorn is a whole grain meaning no blood sugar spikes and inevitable crashes for you! The high fiber and low calorie content will leave you satisfied and pacify cravings without the guilt!
- Add cayenne pepper for a spicy kick, grated parmesan cheese for something savory and salty, sprinkle some cinnamon for that sweet tooth or drizzle a little warm peanut butter for extra protein.
- In just one cup of air popped popcorn there contains 31 calories, 1 g protein, 1.2 g fiber, and less than half a gram of fat.
From Chobani Flip yogurt to peanut butter topped rice cakes, these energy-boosting snacks for busy moms are inspired by Chobani’s concept that by adding in a few different ingredients you can create a versatile [and healthy] snack for any occasion. Even when that occasion is changing diapers and chasing two year olds all day long!
Disclosure: I am proud to partner with Chobani to bring you healthy recipes that are both kid tested and parent approved. Because of these great partnerships I am able to share delicious and nutritious family-friendly recipes. As always all opinion and ideas are 100% my own.
