Fiesta Burgers + 5 Mix n’ Match Burger Toppings

July 5, 2020 By Katie

Fiesta burgers are a fresh and healthy twist on the classic beef burger. Just top your favorite grilled patty with salsa, cheese, and guacamole.

There’s something about the simplicity of a grilled hamburger that brings me back to countless childhood memories of summer. Swim practice? Check. Burger for dinner? Check. Detroit Tigers on the TV? Check. Now that two of those three are still my reality [missing those baseball boys of summer…], burger night is on the menu AT LEAST once a week. If not more because my kids will all eat some semblance of a burger patty, a bun, or the toppings that go on the burger. Yep, 2 of my 4 just eat the bun! Progress not perfection my friends.

4 different personalities = 4 different ways to eat a burger. Bun and all!

While I’m all for the classic cheeseburger, I created these fiesta burgers when I found myself with a little extra salsa and guacamole from the TV segment I hosted on behalf of ALDI last week. Call this one a no-recipe recipe, but all you do is top your grilled hamburger with shredded Mexican-blend cheese, salsa, and guacamole.

Swimming definitely looks different these days than it did during my childhood- hello empty pools! But at least the littlest fishy of our family [Michael] only knows this new normal!
And because you’ll find almost every jarred condiment and spread in my fridge, I put together a little cheat sheet of 5 other mix and match burger topping ideas. Again, don’t stray far from the classic burger if that’s what your family knows and loves. This is for those nights when the kids are up for trying a new recipe, or you’re “wow-ing” friends with a little something extra.

5 Mix n’ Match Burger Toppings:

  • Mediterranean- hummus, pepperoni slices, and feta cheese
  • Italian- roasted red peppers, fontina cheese, and roasted garlic
  • BBQ- crunchy onion topping, BBQ sauce, and bacon slices
  • Sweet & Savory- green apple slices, blue cheese, and honey mustard
  • BLT- bacon, lettuce, and tomato [oh and maybe add some pickles]

These are just 5 that came to mind, but just like any sandwich, you can mix and match burger toppings with whatever you have on hand. Just don’t forget the most important part: the burger! Here’s my go-to recipe for classic beef burgers plus a few more burger recipes you might like:

  • Build Your Own Slider Bar
  • Skillet Pizza Burgers
  • Cheeseburger Melts
  • Chicken Parmesan Burgers

Side note: with my move, new job, and new schedule with the kids, I’ve found myself at 2pm many days without having eaten anything except coffee. Ooops! Confession: McDonald’s quarter pounder with cheese and extra pickles is really, really good. You know, for those days or nights you don’t feel like grilling your own cheeseburger.

So tell me: what’s your favorite burger recipe right now?!

Fiesta burgers are a fresh and healthy twist on the classic beef burger. Just top your favorite grilled patty with salsa, cheese, and guacamole.
