I do my best to stay “real” on this blog. And if the title of this post is any indication as to what life is like right now, well then consider this the Serbinski version of MTV’s Real World Toddler Edition. I’m embarrassed to admit I broke my own rules when it comes to feeding toddlers. The number one being, “don’t serve the same thing two days in a row.” Guess what? The boys ate grilled cheese, dinosaur chicken nuggets, and macaroni and cheese multiple, if not consecutive days in a row this past month. In fact, if you follow me on Snapchat or Instagram, you might have noticed I didn’t share many of their meals. I was HIDING IT! Did I fool anybody?! I hope not…
The reason behind this cheesy carb toddler binge?! It’s because of me. I now know why these foods are considered cornerstones of kid-friendly foods. They’re easy to make and serve. And this week I needed easy. Heck, I was in such a mood that Joey’s request for chocolate chips for breakfast almost happened. ALMOST. I’m having a hard time with lunch mostly because I’m outnumbered by the Serbinski trio. Lily [and most babies] have a sixth sense for when Mom needs to start getting a meal ready. I sit her in her bouncy chair to cook, she screams. I sit down to eat, she screams. And that’s really the only time she makes a peep— unless she’s in her car seat. So add the screaming of a baby with the screaming of hungry toddlers, and guys, I cracked. And enjoyed a few dinosaur chicken nuggets myself.
I think we all deserve a few days or a week to pause and cut ourselves some slack when it comes to any food rules at home [unless you are dealing with food allergies]. That’s what I keep telling myself— and I’m getting reassurance from my own Mom and girlfriends on this exact subject. And pretty much any subject involving toddlers. To get out of the nugget and grilled cheese and cheesy pasta funk, my plan is to prep healthy foods during naptime next week [if I’m not napping too]. I’m also referencing this list more than once a week to remind myself of our family-favorites beyond the big three. To me, it’s more important to recognize this was an off week and set small goals to get back on track. But who am I kidding… sometimes the classic grilled cheese on white bread is SO good!
Tell me: What are your kids munching on these days?! Anything you’d rather not admit to???

My daughter ends up eating raisins and toast for dinner sometimes when she refuses anything else. And by eating toast I mean she sucks the butter off the bread. Maybe it balances out with the days where she’s a great veggie eater?!

Lol ok butter loving just made my day!! And yes it all balances out. I tend to look at their diet in terms of the week vs. day!

My kiddo eats pb & j’s a lot. I can serve it with baby carrots and some baked chips with a side of apple sauce. She definitely has had Mac n cheese days with nothing else though. She loves it. That, and she’d eat pizza every day if I’d let her.

I think I’d eat pizza everyday too! PB and J is the best for lunch… I always seem to forget about that one
