New Year, Same Schedule

Jan 15, 2021 Leave a Comment

New year, same schedule when it comes to co-parenting our four young children. Take a look at our at-home and work schedules.

There’s something comforting about headed into 2021 knowing that of all things I can count on, it’s the schedule with the kids that is staying the same. I learned recently that change is a chance to live life differently, which believe me, I’m all for. But when it comes to young children, there’s something about a schedule that makes life a whole lot more worth living! Or easier living?!

I don’t know about you, but looks like the Sister of the group is living her best life having a 1:1 sleepover with Mom!

Since September 1, 2020, Ted and I have worked out a consistent co-parenting schedule that goes as follows: Katie kid-time Sunday AM-Wednesday PM, Ted kid-time Wednesday PM-Sunday AM. We split directly 50/50 down the middle of the week because that works best for the kids counting, “sleeps at Moms, sleeps at Dads.”

It also makes both my work week and Ted’s work week a little easier to adjust as well. Obviously, kids are the main priority here, and we just feel this is the best schedule for their little brains, bodies, and hearts right now.

Even when I’m not with the kids, we make Facebook Messenger communication a regular thing! The same goes for Ted too.

Because many of you have asked [and you know this Momma is an open book], here’s what a typical week looks like for me [with kids, without kids].

Sunday: KID DAY

  • Workout and/or recovery meeting before picking up the kids.
  • Lunch + playtime at Mom’s house.
  • Afternoon + Sunday dinner at Nana and Grandpa’s.

Monday: KID DAY

  • School for the Big 3 + Mommy and Michael morning.
  • Afternoon of park, play, home work and chill time.
  • Recovery meeting post bedtime.
We are a park-hopping bunch, rain, shine, or SNOW!

Tuesday: KID DAY PLUS WORK

  • Ted and I share a nanny, Ava, and she comes to my house on Tuesday’s.
  • Ava hangs with Michael until the Big 3 get home from school, and I work for the Michigan Beef Industry Commission [MBIC].
  • Dinner + Bedtime with Mom.
  • Recovery meeting post bedtime.
A scene sent by Ava when I was upstairs working, these two were lounging lol.

Wednesday: KID DAY

  • School for the Big 3 + Mommy and Michael morning.
  • Afternoon of park, play, home work and chill time.
  • Kids go back to Ted’s house.
  • Workout + recovery meeting.

Thursday: WORK DAY

  • MBIC work + M2MN work.
  • Grocery shopping and meal prepping.
  • Workout + recovery meeting.

Friday: WORK DAY

  • MBIC work + M2MN work.
  • Grocery shopping and meal prepping.
  • Workout + recovery meeting.

Saturday: WORK DAY

  • MBIC work + M2MN work.
  • Grocery shopping and meal prepping.
  • Workout + recovery meeting.

And then Sunday, the fun starts all over again. Yes, I’m working Saturday’s. Yes, the schedule changes when the kids do not have school. Sometimes Ted and I will swap days or adjust overnights so I can take the kids up north with  my parents, and other days I will have a sitter come for an hour or two just so I can have an extra set of hands at dinner or bedtime. Parenting is hard guys, but like I’ve said before, I have a great co-parent and friend in Ted. Clearly it wasn’t always sunshine and rainbows, but we are both doing OUR PART to make sure we are the best parents we can be for our Four Tops.

A recent trip up north with Nana and Goomba included some pre-bedtime games and lots of laughs!

Phew! Are you tired? Good, cause I am too.

Tired? Not us Mom. Sis is always on the go…

Thoughts on our co-parenting schedule? Anything else I can share on the topic?
