If you know my Tony, then you KNOW my Tony. If I had to say which 1 out of my 4 has my parents saying, “yep, just like her!” it would have to be Tony. Drumroll please…. so, here’s the deal with Tony: It’s not WHAT he says, it’s HOW he says it. Yep, tone, inflection, volume, facial expressions, you name it. Tony and Mom are two peas in a pod with THAT little fun fact. Would you agree, Nana?? 🙂
I’ve had a reminder in my phone for weeks, “coffee shop with Tony.” And yesterday afternoon seemed like the perfect 30 minutes to do so! There’s something to be said about spending 1:1 time with my children. Not only does their “cup” or “bucket” fill in what really isn’t that long of a period of time, but when I sit back and really am present [phone down, conversation, eye contact, you know, all the things we’re trying to teach out kids!], my cup OVERFLOWS.
Typically for an hour or two a few days a week and on the weekends, I’ll have our high school babysitter come over with the intention of doing more 1:1 with each of the kids. Admittedly, I’ve been using that time to answer emails, pay bills, fold laundry, referee a football game, or prep dinner and/or lunches for the next day.
SO, in an effort or attempt to slow down just a little bit this spring [hey, a little goes a long way for me], this blog post is my reminder to use some of that coveted babysitter time for kid-time too! And me-time… whatever that might look like for the day. Sometimes that looks like a walk or run around the block!
And just in case you wonder what that special kid time looks like, here’s what each of my kids suggested we do for 1:1:
Joey: watch him shoot hoops, scratch his back, watch him shoot more hoops [lol with minimal talking I might add- he does a lot of the talking].
Tony: Starbies baby! Yep, Starbucks. Seriously guys, Tony looked and acted like a million dollars drinking his frap and reading his book [yes, in shorts]. I’ll have a coffee date with my guy any day of the week!
Lily: Slime. Enough said. I’ve suggested a few other things…
Michael: Passing the football. And watching Joey shoot hoops.
Nothing fancy. Nothing out of the ordinary. Is there something simple your child would like doing with you?! Share below or reply to this email! I need more ideas for Lily…
