Bumpdate: May 2016

May 15, 2016 By Katie

Multiple times a week I’m asked how far along I am and when my due date is and you know what? I have to pause and think about it for a second. Or a minute. I’d blame the toddlers on my delayed response… which is somewhat true. But I also think I’m in denial that I’m as far along as I am! Because I haven’t officially done a baby update [or bumpdate] on the blog, I figured why not do something extra special for little sis! Plus, I love reading my friend Courtney’s weekly bumpdate over on her blog— so we have her to thank for the bumpdate inspiration!

This should have been my first bumpdate. October 2016. When I found out I was pregnant with sis!
And here we are today. Bump at week 32! With my beautiful friend Christie on her wedding day.

Bumpdate: May 2016

Week Pregnant: I’m writing this when I’m 31 weeks along but you are reading this when I’m 32 weeks. Third trimester baby baby!

Fast forward to NOW. Baby bump is MUCH larger... read on to see why I'm in the dress!

Baby Happenings: Sis is becoming much more active… or least I can feel her move more than the last trimester. Which honestly freaked me out for the majority of the second trimester. Thanks to an anterior laying placenta, she was kicking and punching the placenta, which absorbed a lot of the movement Mom would feel. Once the placenta lifted, she’s now hitting ME! Which is what I wanted all along. She’s about the 55th percentile for size and according to the doc, I’m right on track with my weight, although I’m still not the least bit curious how much I’ve gained. The good news is my maternity clothes still fit [insert sarcastic joke].

Mom Updates: May is a super busy month for us. I’m in two weddings for two of my closest friends. I’ve also decided to cut back on some projects [both personally and professionally] because you know what? Mom can’t do it all. And do it all with patience and a smile on her face. SO, that means if you hear from me a few times one week and zero times another, then just know I’m ok. I’ve just decided to run a hot bath or go to bed early vs. opening my computer. Other than afternoon fatigue and the want to order carryout every night, I’m doing ok. Between me and the boys there’s at least one meltdown every day… which I consider to be a win!

I may or may not have had a meltdown before eating this delicious mix of cashews and chocolate chips.

Diet: I have and always will be a breakfast skipper. And a big dinner eater. There’s no exceptions with that routine this pregnancy. And the icing on the cake is that I’ve been enjoying Chocolate Chex cereal before bed almost nightly. Sis has good taste!

Sleep: What’s that? No really. I think the limited amount of sleep one gets during the third trimester is just your body and baby’s way of saying, “get used to this Momma.” I will sleep again someday. REPEAT AFTER ME! I just can’t get comfortable at night which is in part due to Joey coming into our room a few nights a week and the baby up and kicking at 2am.

Activities: The boys are I are usually up and out of the house in the morning for a playdate or group activity, which always involves the double stroller and Mom’s walking shoes. Now that the weather is nicer we’ll spend the afternoons outside at one of the many parks in our neighborhood or in our backyard. While I was much more active during my pregnancies with Joey and Anthony [lifting weights, running, etc.], I also wasn’t chasing two toddler’s day in and day out. I was also politely reminded by a friend that pregnancy isn’t the time to get into the best shape of your life. This is the time to nourish one’s body and rest—- because your body is doing amazing things! Like making another human being!!

Next Up: Big transitions for the bros. In June we’ll be moving the boys into the same room… and possibly working on potty training Joey. I’m also planning on going through every room in our house and purging, cleaning, doing everything that an extreme nesting pregnant woman would do!

Thanks to Dad and Uncle James for working on the boys' new room!

Well, that was fun! And I hope an insightful glimpse as to what life is like with a 32-week pregnant Mom of two! It’s a lot “nicer” in writing… Although as Ted reminds me, “keep on smiling Mommy!” Truer words couldn’t be said. There’s lots to smile about over here!
