Confession: I have a ridiculously hard time staying in the present moment. So much so I’m writing this blog post and thinking about what new recipe I can share with you guys’ next week. And if my kids have gloves and hats in their school lockers because it’s a little chilly with outdoor recess today. GAH. PRESENT MOMENT KATHERINE!
I tend to focus on the past, which I know I can’t change. Then I start thinking about and fearing for the future, and I can’t do anything about that either. So what else is there to do?
Be where your hands are….
When I get into these mental spaces, focusing on where my hands are DOES help bring me into reality. What’s happening at this very second. Writing this. Connecting with you. Sipping on hot coffee. Focusing on this thought- being where my hands are- helps ground me and bring attention to what really matters.
But more than focusing on where my hands are, I turn to God in prayer and ask for help. Help turning off thoughts about the past, the future, about various things in the present moment that don’t really matter. Regardless of what I’m doing or thinking, I believe God is with me. And wants what’s best for me and my children.
God, continually show me the PRESENT, no matter what comes my way. Help me to stay in the moment to recognize you there with me. Show me how to give the gift of each moment to others, especially my children.
