Watermelon Ice Cubes

May 3, 2018 By Katie

Watermelon ice cubes are a natural, refreshing way to sweeten water. All you need is a blender, fresh watermelon, and ice cube trays!

Sometimes I go to write a blog post or share a recipe and think, “ok, is this even a recipe worth sharing?!” Mainly because the ingredients or idea seems almost too simple. But hey, if I’ve jazzed about these watermelon ice cubes, chances are you will be too, despite the no-brainer ingredient list!

The crew approved! And made picture taking a little tricky…

While I don’t have an exact recipe to share, I can tell you that you need FOUR things to make watermelon ice cubes:

  • 1-2 cups of watermelon [off the rind, cut into cubes]
  • A splash or two of water
  • A high-speed blender
  • Ice cube trays

Throw everything except the trays into the blender, pulse until a watery-watermelon mixture forms, and pour into the ice cube trays. I froze mine overnight, but I’m guessing they take about 3-4 hours to freeze. To enjoy, throw into a glass of water as a replacement for plain water ice cubes. VOILA! An inexpensive way to flavor water with fresh fruit.

It’s as easy as 1-2-3. While I’m all for adding chunks of fruit to flavor water, I like using these kid-friendly ice cube trays to give the watermelon ice cubes a little more toddler appeal. You know, because I’m all about pleasing my toddlers these days!

If you’re a fan of fruit-flavored water, what’s your favorite combo?! Have you ever tried making fruit ice cubes before?
