The Question of the Day

September 11, 2016 By Katie

When Ted and I were dating we would email each other at the start of each day with a “question of the day” or QOD as I liked to call it. This helped to break up typical work emails and also made my computer engineer husband open up a little bit. The QOD around here nowadays seems to be, “how’s Katie doing?!” Well, so far, sort of good. I have THOSE days, which really are more often than not. But I have to say between family, friends who totally get “it,” and three cute kids, I’ve got a lot of positive getting me through. Speaking of cute kids, I thought the best representation as to how to answer the QOD would be by sharing some recent happenings in the Serbinski house. These are the things that have made me sit back and say, “Really?! This is life right now?!”—in a good way! Some days I don’t know whether I need a margarita at 9am, coffee at 8pm, or both once naptime hits!

Typical pre-naptime scene. Yes, I transfer Lily to my arms or her crib.

I’ve changed 3 poopy diapers in a matter of 5 minutes. Here’s how the diaper situation usually goes: Frist, Anthony has a poopy. While changing him I hear Lily poop. So we all walk from Joey and Anthony’s room into Lily’s room and change her there. Then, as I am pulling her pants up I hear Joey doing his usual pooping grunt and sure enough, he poops! It sort of feels like musical chairs but with diapers. Ok and I also have boys who like to read books while their diaper is being changed. Is that sort of like reading on the toilet?!

We are also into pushing the stroller vs. sitting in it. I should consider this a break on my back!

Anthony recently blessed me with the world’s biggest booger kiss. All while I was nursing Lily which made it even more gross. Anthony loves to come sit beside us and see what’s going on when “SISSY EATS!” Well, when he was battling a nasty summer cold he decided to kiss the top of her head [leaving boogers] and kiss my arm [leaving boogers]. He then started acting like Picasso, finger painting on Mom’s arm WITH the boogers.

Cover your eyes sissy!!!

Old McDonald has dinosaurs on his farm. Yep, when we sing Old McDonald I’m usually making noises for Mr. Triceratops, T Rex, and stegosaurus too!

The hokey pokey is SO fun to sing when you put your BUTT in and out. Again, what’s with my boys and changing up classic children’s songs?! So we sing the hokey pokey before naps and put our butts in and out about 50 times. Try it, it’s fun! Probably gets them to do the poopy routine too…

I know sissy... the boys will drive us to drink this stuff! [coffee]

We have a monster in our house. The boys now cry when I go upstairs “fast” with them trailing behind, for fear that, “a monster is coming!!” Thank you Paw Patrol and Bettina the Cow for giving my boys the idea that monsters really do exist. I’ve probably said, “there’s no monster” about 50 times in the past two days. Can’t wait for Halloween!!!!

Anyone else feel like their kids are the paparazzi?! I’ve taken a shower with an audience, gone to the bathroom with an audience, get dressed with an audience. Heck I even sleep with an audience some mornings! But you know what? Whenever I do something by myself, I often miss those little faces or voices questioning what I’m doing.

Love my trio... even if I only get an hour of alone time everyday!

While these things might seem annoying at times, in truth I never want to forget them. That and Lily’s sweet dimples when she smiles. Joey’s head-butt hugs, and Anthony’s constant “Hi Mom!!!” like he hasn’t seen me in years.
