A Little “Thank You” Goes a Long Way

April 1, 2024 By Katie

Have you ever wondered why a simple “thank you” can make a big difference? The power of a simple “thank you” can be transformative; it has the ability to turn a bad day around or make a good day even brighter. Allow me to elaborate…

I can’t believe that Ted and I have been divorced for almost 4 years. I can say this: the journey of co-parenting becomes significantly smoother with a simple “thank you.” Indeed, acknowledging each other’s influence in our daily lives can enhance all kinds of relationships. For me, in the beautiful chaos of motherhood, where love, selflessness, and tireless dedication abound, a simple expression of gratitude can redirect my thoughts. Stinking thinking is real folks. At least in this big beautiful brain! And sure, while I want people to THANK ME, I often feel just as good when I’m thanking and noticing other’s efforts.

So where am I going with this? Ted took a great photo of the 5 of us at church after Easter Sunday mass. I’m grateful that he’s the family photographer and does a great job getting the shot! It’s something I try to recognize him for, especially in front of the kids. They aren’t the biggest fans of photos. Imagine that lol.

Long story endless, this photo is my reminder to keep noticing and recognizing the little things we do for one another. Little things grow and add up to really big things- or so that’s what I remind my 4 roommates. My job is to lead by example, heck, TEACH AND LIVE by example! Totally easier said than done…

Along the lines of gratitude… let’s switch gears and talk about empathy for a second. From the mouth of Tony’s therapist: gratitude helps children develop empathy, which is the ability to understand and share the feelings of others. When you model gratitude, you show your children that their actions affect others and that it’s important to recognize and appreciate kindness. It helps them put themselves in someone else’s shoes and understand the impact of their words and actions.

Wowza. How’s that for a Monday morning?! Anyhow, I challenge you to stop what you’re doing and write down 3 things you’re grateful for.

OH and before I forget: Thank you for coming back to another post. Thank you for checking in on me and my family yesterday. THANK YOU FOR JUST BEING!
