5 of My Pregnancy Cravings Decoded

April 10, 2016 By Katie

Funny things happen when you are pregnant. From mood swings to needing lots of sleep to not being able to sleep, carrying a baby is nothing short of an interesting roller coaster ride. And I say interesting because there’s no other word to describe it. While I could go on and on about the physical and emotional changes happening to my body right now, I’ll save that pity party for my husband. Instead lets talk food! Or more specifically, pregnancy cravings. Because little sis loves food just like her Momma, a few interesting foods to be exact [there I go with interesting again].

Increased appetite during pregnancy is a real thing for me folks. And somehow Ted knows just when to capture my hungry moments!

When I was pregnant with Joey and Anthony, my cravings were fairly similar. Lattes [yes, I know there is a recommended caffeine limit for pregnant women but some days I exceeded it], cottage cheese and berries, peanut butter, and then anything and everything with hot sauce. I also wanted pizza almost every night the last few weeks of their pregnancies so I’m curious to see if my pizza-loving hubby gets his wish again this third time around. But so far, pregnancy cravings with little sis have been different. Blame it on the gender difference?! Who knows. Or maybe it’s because I’m playing with little boys all day and have their food-influence to thank. So here you have it, 5 pregnancy cravings I can’t explain, but probably consume weekly if not daily!

Our post-baby meal: Pizza! Or so that's what it's been with the boys. We shall see what little sis feels like [I'm sure the champagne will stay the same].

Goldfish. I’m pretty sure Joey’s first food-word was fish. And I know he wasn’t talking about omega-3 packed salmon. Little sis must hear our discussions about snack time and want in on the make-your-own trail mix fun with Goldfish! And yes, at 9pm you can find me on our couch watching the news, eating a cup of Goldfish, and drinking a cup of tea. Wild, right?!

Ethnic food. Sis likes spice. And lots of it! From Mediterranean to Lebanese to Mexican to Thai to Chinese, give me all the spice, heat, and flavor you can possibly have in one meal. But the funny thing is I go from a Chinese kick one week to a Lebanese kick the next. Let’s just say I’m keeping some carry-out places in business! And the boys are getting worldly exposure to lots of different cuisines.

Gummy Worms. Ok these cravings HAVE to be toddler-influenced. But when we go to Nana and Grandpa’s house, the boys go straight for the snack drawer that houses the gummy worms. Guess who is racing them to the gummy worm container and call first dibs?

Coffee. What is with my kids and caffeine? So I guess this one is similar to my other pregnancies. But I could live off of coffee with vanilla creamer. Lots of it. Does anyone else think sis has a sweet tooth?!

Cereal. And not the high-fiber, whole grain kind. I like Frosted Flakes, Peanut Butter Cheerios, Chocolate Cheerios, and ok, Honey Nut Cheerios. Or should I say sis likes them?! So after I have those Goldfish at 9pm, if I’m still awake I like to then have a bowl of cereal. Then go to bed.

Don't judge out cereal cupboard please. I BEG YOU!

While I might be enabling my weight gain this pregnancy [and every pregnancy before] with not-so-healthy pregnancy cravings, I’m doing what’s important right now: listening to my body. And my baby. And so far, sis is going to be just as sweet as her bro’s!

NOT PICTURED: One month pre-delivery with little sis. I still have about 2.5 months to go and my appetite is well BEYOND fair! Don’t fret, I’ll share a photo or two soon….

So tell me: What foods have you craved throughout your pregnancy? Pregnancies? Were they different or similar?!
