July 28, 2015 By Katie

Nuts, dried fruit and chocolate chips make the ultimate homemade snack mix! Sub Wheat Chex or whole grain Goldfish if you have a nut allergy in your family!

The self-serve bins at Fresh Thmye Farmer’s Market were the inspiration behind this homemade snack mix. That and my toddler who wanted to sample a taste of every nut and grain from the bins! Before I get into the details about my shopping experience at Fresh Thyme, I wanted to share the recipe just in case you needed something to snack on while reading!

Fresh Thyme Farmer’s Market is a new full-service specialty grocery store featuring fresh and healthy value-priced offerings at all of their locations. They opened their first store in Michigan earlier this year in East Lansing. I’m so grateful they opened 3 more Michigan stores, all near me in Metro Detroit— Northville, Troy and Rochester Hills. Even better news? Fresh Thyme is scheduled to open a total of 60 stores by 2019!!!

My home team visiting Fresh Thyme Farmer’s Market!

What I love about Fresh Thyme is that they are passionate about making “local” a focus for each store, from the products and produce to the people they staff. They offer over 450 local items, from produce to grocery products, in every Michigan based store. While I don’t tout local as being healthier, it is great for the Michigan economy! Fresh Thyme’s focus on “local” also means they dedicated to giving back to the community. In the Detroit area, they gave away $15,000 to local non-profits as part of their 3-store Grand Opening celebration.

More fun facts about Fresh Thyme:

  • Fresh Thyme offers a meat department, healthy deli foods to go, bakery goods, bulk food, produce department with around 170 offerings, natural and organic groceries, dairy and frozen, over 7000 varieties of vitamins and supplements.
  • Each store includes a Fresh Thyme Kitchen featuring prepared salads and meals as well as a full salad bar, made-to-order sandwiches and a bakery featuring artisan breads.
  • There are over 400 bins of natural and organic self-serve bulk items. Bulk items range from grains, granola, beans, snack items and more— hence WHY I decided to make my own homemade snack mix from the great variety!

Along with the deli department, there’s plenty of pre-packed meat and cheese options to go!

Remember my homemade snack mix shared in this post? Who wouldn’t want to make their own mix with these bins!

I’d also like to add Joey and Ted enjoyed almost every free sample during our visit to Fresh Thyme. I couldn’t get Joey away from the bacon!
