Someone photobombed my photo shoot!

As I mentioned on Facebook yesterday, this week I’m sharing favorite recipes of my almost two-year-old toddler Joey. If you were to ask Joey if he likes banana splits, he’d probably look at you and say, “I don’t know.” Seriously he’s two going on fifteen because he responds to most questions with that saying! But since Joey loves every flavor in the traditional dessert, I wanted to create something that satisfied his sweet tooth all while giving him some extra nutrition Mom can feel good about! Voila! Greek yogurt banana split.

Joey doesn’t have to feel like he’s missing out on the real deal with my Greek yogurt banana split. Mainly because he’s never had a real banana split— so don’t tell him what I’m doing here! But really, my version is a lot lighter on the calories and fat, and much more nutritious with the Greek yogurt and ice cream swap. And who doesn’t love dark chocolate chips?! This registered dietitian does! Dark chocolate is filled with powerful antioxidants, way more than most foods. But that doesn’t mean dark chocolate is calorie or fat free…so portioning it out in a dessert or snack like this Greek yogurt banana split is a reasonable way to enjoy it.

So here are to healthy swaps that both Mom and toddler Joey feel good about! And if you can’t get enough of this healthy banana split, I’d suggest trying my friend Amanda’s Breakfast Banana Split OR Liz’s Yogurt Banana Splits with Muesli. Or I give you permission to enjoy chocolate for breakfast and you can stick with my version too!
