Ready in less than 15 minutes, these skillet chicken burgers are full of flavor and make one effortless weeknight meal.
I can’t tell you the last time I had a chicken burger. Honestly I don’t even know if I’ve even had a taste of one. One of my favorite restaurants has a delicious veggie burger and beyond that, I’m a beef girl all the way. But last week I had this strange craving for a chicken burger topped with Tzatiki sauce, tomatoes, and cucumbers, and you know what? I satisfied that craving and made these simple skillet chicken burgers!
Now don’t worry; I’m still a beef burger kind of gal. And I’m sure the Sabra Tzatiki sauce I purchased would be just as delicious on a lean beef burger. But I’d rather eat a beef burger cooked on a grill. And since I wasn’t in the mood for grilling in my winter coat, I made these chicken burgers on a non-stick skillet. Don’t question my reasoning. Remember I’m sleep deprived and dealing with little hungry toddlers for 12 hours a day.
I consider this recipe to be the base for a simple chicken burger recipe. You can add more seasonings depending on what kind of meal your serving up! For example, add some taco seasoning and serve these burgers alongside rice and beans. Add some Italian seasoning and serve with roasted veggies. Or don’t do a thing! Just season as-is and eat with chips and salsa or raw veggies and hummus dip like we did! The boys really liked the burgers [they didn’t quite get the burger on a bun thing]. I cut their burger into little pieces and served with BBQ sauce. Did you expect anything else?!
- 1 pound ground white meat chicken
- ½ cup breadcrumbs
- 1 egg
- 2 tablespoons grated yellow onion
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- ¼ teaspoon cumin
- ¼ teaspoon paprika
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 tablespoon canola oil
- Hamburger buns, tomato slices, cucumber slices, Sabra Tzatiki sauce for serving
- Combine ingredients except oil in large mixing bowl. Separate into 5 large burgers or 6-7 smaller burgers.
- Heat oil in non-stick skillet over medium heat. Add burgers to skillet and cook 7 minutes per side, or until cooked through. Serve immediately.
You could also make a batch of these burgers on the weekend, wrap individually in plastic wrap and freeze! I would then reheat in the microwave on low for a few minutes before serving. Not in the mood for a burger? Consider using this same mixture for chicken meatballs! Your skillet, family, and hungry tummy will thank me….
