Make-Ahead Breakfast Boxes

August 29, 2020 By Katie

Make-ahead breakfast boxes can be assembled the night before so your family can wake-up and enjoy a healthy breakfast without the fuss!

My children will be returning to school IN-PERSON. I repeat. My children will be going to school in-person. Politics, COVID, and all that comes along with 2020 B2S season aside, let’s just focus on one thing: Ted and I will both be in charge of getting the 3 amigos [well, 4 tops if we count Michael], dressed in uniform, fed, and bags packed all before 8am!

Dinner is my wheelhouse friends. And if you call buttered noodles and grapes dinner like I do, then we are best friends.
Seriously though, feeding this troop dinner is my jam! Breakfast on the other hand?! Read on…

In an effort to streamline our morning routine, to make things just a bit easier on Mom, oh and to start my children’s day with a nutritious, brain-boosting breakfast, I put together these simple make-ahead breakfast boxes. They are CUTE and customizable based on my family’s morning preferences. I keep mine in the refrigerator because I almost always have a dairy option [milk, yogurt, cheese] inside or on the side. The trick is to store them at eye-level in the refrigerator so they can easily grab their own breakfast box.

I used the Easy Lunchboxes brand because I love their 3-part spacing, the fact that they are dishwasher safe, and they can easily be opened by big and little kids. I also like the color-coded tops- so each child knows who’s who! They are also perfectly compartmentalized with just enough space for a few brain-boosting food groups like protein, carbs, and dairy.

As you can see, we ‘ve got a big carb-crowd at the Serbinski house in the AM. Or as I like to call my children’s tastebuds: traditional. While you can certainly jazz-up your make-ahead breakfast box options, my group is a little more traditional, or simple, when it comes to breakfast.

Other ideas to consider adding to your make-ahead breakfast boxes [i.e. the things I wish I could add that my children do not eat]:

  • Hard-boiled eggs
  • Waffle + peanut butter sandwiches
  • Bagel + cream cheese
  • Overnight oats
  • Granola + yogurt parfait

Well there you have it! Cereal and yogurt with some carbs for the Serbs, and we are ready to tackle the school day. You might be thinking, “but does it really take that long to get a bowl of cereal ready on a school morning? Is she making it harder on herself by packing the night before?” Yes and no. But I know one thing: Joey and Anthony are helping me make the breakfast boxes. And Joey is helping me serve his younger siblings. THAT’S worth all of the breakfast boxes in the world if you ask me.

So tell me: How do you make mornings run a little smoother on your end?!

Here’s a little love for you Mom’s and Dad’s juggling back to school AND COVID this year. We all deserve a little extra LOVE [or LOFEE as Joey calls it].
