My Blogging Goal for 2016: Transparency

December 6, 2015 By Katie

It’s been about one year since Mom to Mom Nutrition began. Granted I started blogging in April 2014, but in December 2014 I started THE brand of Mom to Mom Nutrition [M2MN]. The purpose behind this blog is to be a resource for you, the busy mom, wife, and professional. Food is just one component us moms worry about when it comes to our family’s well-being, so I wanted to help take a load off your shoulders [give you a few laughs in the process] and share my take on raising a healthy family. While building the community of mom’s here at M2MN is still a goal for 2016, I have another big goal in mind for the upcoming year: transparency. Mainly because I want you to know I’m always cleaning up after my kids, rarely showered, and you guessed it: I do NOT have it all together or figured out. But I continue blogging because I love to cook and share and connect. And connect with other woman is one thing that’s taken a backseat since my children are now in the front.

Here’s my crew with one of our best family photos of 2015—- all showered and accounted for. Don’t worry, I changed right into yoga pants and took off the makeup after our photo sesh!

So here’s how I plan to be transparent in 2016—- through blog posts, images, and you guessed it, RECIPES!

Blogging isn’t always enjoyable. I guess like any job. I get surges of energy to blog, and these surges come once or twice a week. “When does all the blogging happen?!” is a question I’m often asked. Truth be told, the cooking and food photography happens when the boys are napping or watching Paw Patrol. What about the writing or research for nutrition articles? Well that usually happens late at night and I’m a BEAR to be around the next day. See where I’m going with this?!

OR the cooking happens when this little guys is at my feet!

I’ve started putting me first one morning a week. We love our sitter, Marjie, who comes on Thursday mornings. While I want to use that time to finish projects or write my blog content for the following week, I spend most of that time really doing things for ME. Working out, running errands, or eeeek… taking a NAP! Don’t worry, Marjie knows.

“Mommy time? What’s that? It sounds super funny and silly!!” [this photo was one I took with SnapChat— find me there @katieserbinski].
My kids are my biggest recipe critics. And most of the time I want to shake my wooden spatula in the air when they don’t eat my cooking! And no, my kids don’t eat it all. Or ¾ of it. I share recipes with the best intentions: that you and your family will enjoy them. Even if my boys turn their nose up at or lick the sauce off of what I’m serving. But instead of throwing in the towel and only posting hummus and ranch-centric recipes, I’m not quitting. Or letting my boys dictate what I serve them— even though most lunches are grilled cheese or macaroni and cheese. Momma calls the shots at dinner! *What’s important to remember here is that I always try to serve something they like at each meal.

They might not always eat my cooking, but they sure know how to melt my heart!

Back to the recipes…. In 2016, you’ll see more dinner recipes vs. anything else. Why? Because dinner excites me, even if no one else in my family feels the same. I also dislike breakfast and think my kids snack too much, and assume your little kiddos might too. So let’s just focus on dinner together! Sound good?!

Schedule? What schedule? If you’ve been subscribed to my email updates for a few month’s now you’ll likely notice I hit your inbox 2-3 times per week. While I have the best intentions to share 3 posts every week, some weeks are better than others [meaning I have more energy to write or share], and other weeks I put me first and take that energy elsewhere. Heck, I might actually read a book and get off my computer in 2016! Just remember, if you haven’t heard from me in a few days, I’m likely getting the rest I need or on vacation. Ha! Good one, right?!

Blogging isn’t the most important thing in my life right now: these guys are and always will be. So if you only get one email from me some weeks you can take it up with these guys!

We are just a few short weeks away from the New Year, and it honestly feels good to get this new goal off my chest! A friend told me social media can give you the case of “comparitis.” And that’s one thing I do NOT want you to have when you read my stories and try my recipes. I want you to know the cooking happens in pajamas, my kids prefer boxed macaroni and cheese over my homemade cooking, and my husband and I spend way too much time on our computers and not enough time talking to each other. Something else we are adding to our family goal list for 2016! [That was a big one to get off my chest— and he knows because I had him proofread this post]. So here’s to a great year ahead, and thank YOU for giving me my energy surges to share. And for always listening… because we know the bash bro’s aren’t doing much of that these days either.

Oh and I had to share this just because… in December 2015 we also welcome Anthony into our family. Can you believe he’s one year already?!?!?!
