If you follow along on my stories, you’ve probably seen a Caesar salad pop up more than once — that’s because Lily asks for it almost every day. Whether it’s featured in a snack plate or served as dinner, this salad makes a regular appearance in our kitchen.

It all starts with Nana’s classic Caesar dressing, a creamy, garlicky recipe that never goes out of style. You can find the full dressing recipe here. Over time, we’ve turned that familiar flavor into something even more fun — a salad base you can customize for any taste or occasion.

The Caesar Salad Base Recipe

Think of this as your starting point — crisp, simple, and so delicious it could stand on its own.

You’ll need:

  • Fresh romaine lettuce (or kale for extra crunch and nutrition)
  • Nana’s Caesar dressing
  • Freshly grated Parmesan cheese
  • Homemade or store-bought croutons
  • Fresh lemon juice
  • Cracked black pepper

Toss the greens with Nana’s dressing right before serving to keep everything fresh and crisp. This is your core — now let’s make it customizable!

Build Your Own Caesar Salad Bowls: Add-Ins and Variations

Once you’ve got your Caesar base ready, you can turn it into anything you want. Here are a few family favorites that make dinner fun and flexible.

🐔 Classic Chicken Caesar

Add sliced grilled or roasted chicken breast for a go-to protein-packed option. Top with crispy bacon or extra Parmesan for flavor.

🍤 Seafood Caesar

Try grilled shrimp, roasted salmon, or even seared tuna. Avocado and cherry tomatoes add a lovely fresh touch.

🥩 Steakhouse Caesar

Turn your salad into a hearty meal with thinly sliced flank steak or grilled tri-tip. Drizzle with balsamic glaze or sprinkle Pecorino on top.

🥚 Vegetarian Caesar

For a meat-free version, load up on roasted chickpeas or white beans. Add hard-boiled eggs, avocado, or toasted nuts and seeds for texture and extra protein.

🍞 Hearty Caesar Twist

Serve it wrapped in a tortilla or spooned onto toasted sourdough for an open-faced sandwich. You can even toss in roasted potatoes for a warm, comforting version.

Serving Idea: The Caesar Bar

Hosting dinner or feeding a picky crowd? Set up a Caesar Salad Bar! Toss your greens with Nana’s Caesar dressing, then lay out bowls of proteins, veggies, and toppings so everyone can build their perfect bowl. It’s fresh, easy, and makes meals interactive and fun.

Why My Kids Love This Recipe

This isn’t just a salad — it’s a tradition. Nana’s Caesar dressing brings everyone to the table, and the customizable format keeps dinner simple, flexible, and stress-free. Whether you want something light or hearty, elegant or casual, this salad is the perfect starting point.

So, grab your greens, whisk up a batch of Nana’s dressing, and build your own family dinner around a timeless favorite.
