What Are You Grateful For?

February 25, 2024 By Katie

Recovery. It’s a word that carries so much weight, isn’t it? Whether it’s recovery from an illness, a tough day, or a challenging situation, the journey can feel like a winding road with unexpected twists and turns. But amidst it all, there’s something beautiful waiting to be discovered: gratitude.

A reminder from a coffee shop in Traverse City MI 2024 is the year of gratitude

Today I woke up truly believing in the power of gratitude to light up even the darkest of days. It’s like a beacon of hope, guiding us through the toughest of times and reminding us of the beauty that surrounds us, even in the midst of chaos.

Do I always wake up feeling grateful? HECK NO! But I know that when I lead with gratitude, love, and all things I seem to forget when I’m not doing the next right thing, the day is just better. For me and my 4 little ducklings. And pretty much anyone that crosses my path lol.

Grateful for 4 healthy resilient FUN children + one resilient FUN adventurous Nana The skatepark this winter break did not disappoint

So, what does gratitude have to do with recovery? Everything. You see, when we take a moment to pause and reflect on the things we’re grateful for, it’s like we’re giving ourselves a little hug from the inside out. It’s a gentle reminder that no matter how tough things may seem, there’s always something to be thankful for.

Grateful for a simple meal like pasta butter and garlic bread Oh and extra grateful for friends who make stuffed shells so the adults can enjoy food other than butter and noodles

And here’s the thing about recovery: it’s not always a straight path. It’s okay to take it one day at a time, one step at a time, knowing that each small victory is a reason to celebrate. Whether it’s getting out of bed in the morning, reaching out for support, or simply taking a deep breath, every moment of progress is worth acknowledging.

Grateful for my Tony who wanted to get a picture of Mom in her happy place

So, let’s make a pact, shall we? Let’s embrace recovery with open arms and hearts full of gratitude. Let’s take it one day at a time, knowing that each day is a gift waiting to be unwrapped. And let’s remember that no matter how tough the journey may be, we’re never alone.

Im clearly NEVER alone As evidenced by a winter break trip north with the kids my parents and 2 dogs FAMILY = everything And yes we still annoy one another and bicker But Im grateful for this Motley Crue

Here’s to finding gratitude in the journey of recovery- whatever you might be recovering from, and to taking it one beautiful day at a time.
