Snowman Ice Cream Sundaes

December 5, 2023 By Katie

Snowman Ice Cream Sundaes are cute, festive, and double as a craft project for kids. There’s no baking involved in this holiday dessert and the best part is that everyone can make their own!

The base is simple: vanilla ice cream for the body, marshmallow for the head, and twizzlers for the arms. Arms could also be pretzels or candy canes.

You might be surprised to learn that I sometimes stress about making holiday memories for my children. I.e. Am I doing enough to give them a magical holiday experience?!

I want to rewrite that paragraph and not let you in on my “first thought” as I scroll through holiday posts and open Christmas cards. Yes, I struggle with not being, “enough,” and that also trickles into making Christmas memories with my children. But here’s what the snowman ice cream sundae experience taught me: our children just want us.

No matter the time of year, the season of life we are in, heck, whether the Easter Bunny, Santa Claus, or the American Flag is the “mascot” of the holiday, my children are making memories regardless- as long as I’m there, and present. When I think back to my favorite Christmas memories as a child, it was driving around with my parents, Aunt Joy, and brother, looking at Christmas lights after Christmas Eve or Christmas Day dinner. My Dad’s [interesting?!] driving coupled with giggles from my Mom and Joy, and my brother’s annoyance with little sister [me] brings a smile to my face as I type it. Simple memories that included some special time with family.

Ok, ok. While I’m not driving anyone around for Christmas lights just yet, you know I’m big about food around here, and my home team is big about treats. So, yeah, right now our memories involve sprinkles, sugar, and maybe some more sugar. Plus, every once and awhile a bowl of vanilla ice cream just tastes SO good. And it’s better shared with friends!

It took a second to set up this snowman ice cream sundae bar and for 2 big reasons: Lily and Michael wanted to help!

No real recipe here [again], just have fun, be creative, and don’t forget lots of toppings! Oh and various ice cream scooper sizes. That helps with the shape of the snowman.

The best part was having a few friends over and seeing how the girls vs. boys made their snowman ice cream sundaes.

Signing off with one more reminder that ice cream, sprinkles, and a wrestling match with siblings and friends is the kind of Christmas memory we’ll never forget.
