5 Must-Have iPhone Apps for New Parents

September 30, 2014 By Katie

Whether you want to get organized, get extra rest, or track every milestone of your baby’s life, these 5 iPhone apps will help you do just that!

I’ve created a “Baby” folder on my iPhone to make these apps easily accessible!

In’s and Out’s

In’s and Out’s is a simple newborn activity tracker. The app allows you to track your baby’s basics: trends/how often your baby sleeps, eats, and needs a diaper change. You can even share this data with your partner or other families members, which I found to be the best part (especially when I was out of town for work).

Sprout Baby

Sprout is similar to In’s and Out’s in terms of milestones and trends tracking. I found to be more like a personalized planner for Joey. We could record medical visits, medications, and immunizations. The app provides daily tips for parents and baby, which were really fun to read! I also liked the Feeding Tool, which was very detailed (timing, side to feed, amount in bottle, etc.). Sprout also has a Pregnancy Essentials app which is like getting BabyCenter weekly updates on your iPhone. I’ve used both!

WebMD Baby

How many times have you referenced WebMD online? Now get the same info on your smartphone! What sets WebMD Baby apart from In’s and Out’s and Sprout, you can access articles and videos based on your baby’s age and receive a doctor-approved tip each day! I think Joey’s pediatrician appreciated my use of this app, or else the nurse’s line would have gotten more phone calls!

The Wonder Weeks

The Wonder Weeks is an international, best-selling book that describes developmental changes all babies go through. The app is the perfect companion- in fact I haven’t even read the book! The app is a handy reminder for new parents when their baby’s brain is changing, or “leaping,” she is making a significant advance in mental development, and with each step forward comes a drastic change in the way your baby sees the world around him. The Wonder Weeks is SPOT on- and a great reference for the mental leaps and bounds our baby’s experience (and the behaviors that come along with the leaps).

White Noise

Touted by Dr. Oz as a “miracle for better sleep,” the White Noise app features ambiet sounds of the environment to help you AND baby relax during the day OR night. I used (and plan on using) this app when Joey would get a little fussy breastfeeding or just before bedtime. There’s a variety of “noises” you can choose from- so find one that works for your little one!
