I’m in shock as I’m typing this post. So much shock [and denial] that I’m on my second individual bag of Cool Ranch Doritos and am debating a third. When seasoned parents tell you, the days are long, but the years are short, nothing could be further from the truth in a baby’s first year of life. Seriously, though. How is Michael already 6 months old?!
If I could describe baby Michael in one word, it would be joy. He is the most joyful baby I’ve ever met- and yes, I’m being biased. He wakes up smiling despite being smothered by his sister, and goes through most days with ease and flexibility, mainly because the poor guy has no other choice. Schedule? Eh, depends on the day, minute, or hour. Lucky for us he doesn’t fuss much about it. And if he did, we’d likely just have to power through anyway. The perk of being the youngest, right?!
From his round face and chubby cheeks to his constant flipping and rolling over, Michael is truly the light of my life. And if you’ve been following along since his birth, you know the past 6 months have been really trying [read more about my postpartum trials here]. More so emotionally for me vs. physically. Motherhood is a paradox at times, and to say I’ve been struggling is an understatement. Not to make Michael’s 6-month update about me, I just want to send a big thank you to those of you who have cut me some slack on cancellations, sent a note or email, and texted to, “check-in.” And a big thank you to my husband Ted for standing by my side when my emotions have been anything but normal. It hasn’t been easy, but we’ve been getting through this postpartum stuff together- which is the most important thing. Things are getting better- as evidenced by my first night of making pizza in the new house last week. It’s amazing what a good meal can do for the mind, body, and soul.
Ok enough about me, back to this cutie. My wish for Michael Stanson is to always radiate joy and to spread his joy to as many people as possible throughout his life. To say we are beyond blessed to have him in our lives is an understatement. And something I know most parents say about their children.
Some 6-month Michael notables:
- When laying on his playmat, Michael is constantly rolling and backward scooting
- He’s officially started solids, including mix purees and baby-led weaning finger foods [Here’s my guide to starting solids with baby]
- I know I mentioned this before, but my guy does NOT stop laughing and smiling- especially when his siblings are around
- Michael is also extremely observant when he hears a voice he recognizes- so observant he’s getting very distracted when it comes to bottle time
Can you tell we are proud parents?! It’s hard not to think each milestone of Michael’s is the last of our baby’s reaching those milestones, but it’s the truth. He’s our last baby. So more the need to soak up the little things in his life!

He sounds a lot like Sebastian, temperament-wise. I’m convinced deep down Sebastian knows he’s a fourth child and that affects his personality. Most importantly I’m glad you’re feeling better!! Xo
