While I often do a life update almost every newsletter [if you’re not on my list, subscribe here!], I figured it was about time for a life update to stay permanent on the blog. While I use this platform to share mostly easy, healthy-ish recipes, I also use it as an online journal for myself. Whether I’m talking about recovery, motherhood, a mix of it all, it’s helpful for me to see how far I’ve come in some regards. And how much has truly happened over the past 7 years. So, life update it is!
Mom: Me, aka Momma Bear, Mrs. Serbinski, Ms. Katie, MAAAAAHM, Mommy. Whatever you want to or choose to call me, just know I’m happiest when I’m in Mom-mode these days. From school lunch duty to taking the kids to activities, to planning play dates and visiting with other like-minded moms, I’m in a groove right now that I pray I never take for granted. Oh I also just moved. There’s that. And I’m too tired to talk about it right now. So, sign-up for my newsletter and I’ll tell you more about the move there! See what I did?!
Joey: My sweet Joe Joe is officially 7.5 years old [I don’t know when we started celebrating half-birthdays but the Serbinski kids are into it right now]. This old soul of mine has started asking for soccer games in the backyard with Mom [YEAH!], loves playing video games with Dad [always include root beer], is the peacemaker among his siblings and friends, and gives almost everything he does a good “try.” Except reading before bed. Lord almighty… we both fall asleep reading books. Sorry Mrs. Tucker!
Anthony: I can’t help but laugh typing this… but if Anthony asks me one more time, “how much time until XYZ happens,” I think I’m going to snap. Well, not really. I know it’s his anxiety coming out in a way… but it’s also an opportunity to teach my 6-year-old math, how to tell time, and patience. This guy needs patience like his Momma, but with all his TIME questioning and requests, he’s also inadvertently teaching me how to live in the moment. And not rush to the next best thing! Anthony still is the last one awake in the morning, and the last one to bed. He and I sneak in extra cuddle time when the other 3 go to bed…
Lily: Super Lily! Super strong personality. Super sweet and spicy. I think anyone that has “super” attached to their nickname is going places. And Lily, my friends, is going places. This spring Lily is signed up for soccer with her buddies Case and Alice, and much to Mom’s surprise, she’s got a mean left-foot and can outrun her brothers.
Michael: Need I say more. Michael is up for anything, smiles and is friendly with everyone he makes eye contact with, and lives for meetups and playdates with his buddy Gabe. The forever comedian of our group, Mr. Michael lights up any room he enters!
We’ve got about 6 more weeks of school left, which means spring activities are in full-swing- soccer for Lily, baseball for the big boys, and lots of watching and snacking for the littlest Serbinski. Ted and I are still working out some co-parenting kinks, but overall, chat every day, sharing updates, stories, or figuring out a plan for the “next” thing on our list. We also have a village that helps us- family, friends who are like family, and most importantly, a mutual respect and love for our children. So while this busy season isn’t always easy, especially going it alone, I find that I’m almost never alone… and never have to do anything alone as long as I ask for support and help!
Phew. Is it bedtime yet?!
