All 6 of these breakfast ideas can be made in advance, and preferably with the help of your kids! If you find yourself short on time in the morning but want a homemade breakfast, then this post is for you!
I find it funny that I’m writing a post about 6 breakfast ideas you can make in advance. Because breakfast for my four is typically Mom microwaving some Eggo pancakes, pouring bowls of Honey Nut Cheerios, Greek yogurt with chocolate chips [yep, it’s been done before], or frozen waffles that are reheated in the toaster! SO. Clearly breakfast is not a fan favorite around here. But that doesn’t mean you, my trusty reader, isn’t looking for some new breakfast options.
IF YOU HAVE THE TIME [keywords here] and enjoy making breakfast [I’m personally more of a dinner fan], keep reading! These breakfast ideas offer a variety of options that are not only delicious but also easy for kids to help prepare or assemble, making mornings more enjoyable for the whole family.
6 Make-Ahead Breakfast Ideas
Breakfast Burritos or Wraps: Prepare ingredients like cooked eggs, cheese slices, and breakfast meats (such as ham or bacon). Kids can assemble these into sandwiches using tortillas, wraps, or English Muffins. Wrap the sandwiches in foil and refrigerate them overnight. In the morning, they can be quickly reheated in the oven or microwave.
Pancake muffins [or regular muffins]: Make pancake batter and pour it into greased muffin tins. Kids can add toppings like blueberries, chocolate chips, or diced apples to each muffin cup. Bake the pancake muffins the night before, and they can be reheated in the morning for a convenient and portable breakfast option.
Overnight oats: Mix rolled oats with milk (or a milk alternative), yogurt, and toppings like fruits, nuts, or honey in a jar. Let it sit in the refrigerator overnight, and it’s ready to eat in the morning.
Smoothie packs: Chop up fruits and portion them into individual freezer bags along with any additional ingredients like spinach, yogurt, or protein powder. In the morning, simply blend the contents of the bag with some liquid (such as milk or juice) to make a quick and nutritious smoothie.
Parfaits: Set up a parfait station with layers of yogurt, granola, and sliced fruits or berries. Kids can customize their own parfaits by layering these ingredients in glasses or jars. Prepare these the night before and refrigerate until breakfast time.
These breakfast ideas are not only kid-friendly but also encourage independence and creativity in the kitchen. A win win!
