These Grilled BBQ Shrimp Skewers are made with a semi-homemade BBQ sauce and grilled to perfection in under 20 minutes. A light and simple meal to add to your summer grilling recipe repertoire!
One of the MANY reasons I love spending so much time at my parents’ house right now is that my favorite recipes from childhood are on weeknight meal rotation. I look forward to my Mom’s simply grilled burgers, chicken rollatini, and other specials like these grilled BBQ shrimp skewers. We typically have grilled BBQ shrimp skewers on Friday’s during Lent. But now that I know the method to my Mom’s madness and that the shrimp take no time to marinade and grill, I try to put this recipe on our menu bi-weekly, if not weekly.
Now here comes the elephant in the room… Does the crew eat the shrimp? Hah! Do pigs fly? Nope to both of those questions. But that’s ok. The marinade is a little spicy [because of the store-bought BBQ base we use], but even if I chose a BBQ sauce that was sweet, I still don’t think my kiddos would eat this recipe. They just aren’t shrimp fans. And that’s ok! MORE FOR ME! Funny how that works, right?!
So, while Mom is enjoying the spice and tang from the shrimp, the kids are enjoying a grilled hot dog dinner. The best of both worlds in my opinion! I suppose you could use this marinade for chicken or other types of fish but give it a shot on the shrimp first. I guarantee you’ll be grilling again and again, like me!
- 1-pound large shrimp peeled and deveined
- 1 cup BBQ sauce [we use Open Pit Original]
- ½ lemon, juiced
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon dried dill
- Add shrimp to a large resealable plastic bag. Mix remaining ingredients in large bowl and add to bag. Seal and toss to coat evenly.
- Marinate for at least 15 minutes or up to 2 hours.
- Thread shrimp onto skewers. Heat grill over medium high heat.
- Place skewers on grill. Cook 3-4 minutes on each side or until shrimp is pink.
- Serve immediately.
The shrimp goes GREAT with a scoop of brown rice, sweet potato packets, OR honey roasted broccoli and cauliflower. It also tastes great with a little extra sauce, so save the marinade if you can, and heat either on the stovetop or microwave before serving.
OK grillmasters… It’s Wednesday. This is a quick recipe. And our families have to eat. Let’s get grilling!
